Jobs and local benefits

A new public park

URTP will include a new public park approximately the size of 15 football pitches, on land currently occupied by a private quarry and minerals operations.

The new landscape is expected to include:

  • New walking and cycling routes – in landscaped parkland along Uxbridge Road

  • New public wildlife area – on the northern side of the site

  • New habitats – including hedgerows, grassland, ponds and wetlands

  • Sustainable drainage – landscaped drainage features that provide habitats and biodiversity

  • Biodiversity net gain – supporting plants, birds, invertebrates and other local species

  • Landscape buffers – planting and landform to create an attractive setting

Hundreds of permanent jobs

Uxbridge Road Tech Park is expected to create hundreds of permanent operational and support roles

A wide range of well-paid roles will need to be filled, including:

  • Electrical and mechanical engineering

  • Data centre and facilities operations

  • Information technology

  • Energy and environmental management

  • Security

  • Administration

  • Cleaning, catering and other support services

Training and education

Local people will be provided with routes to new opportunities

We will work with local schools, colleges, universities, employment services and training providers to create an appropriate training and education programme, expected to include:

  • Apprenticeships

  • Technical and vocational training

  • Work experience

  • Careers engagement

  • Pathways to digital infrastructure and engineering roles

  • Support for local businesses entering the data centre supply chain.

As the project progresses, detailed commitments will be developed with local partners.

Construction and supply chain

Construction, taking place over several years, would require a substantial workforce.

Opportunities would cover construction, engineering, utilities, communications, logistics, landscaping, security and professional services.

Local employment and procurement strategies would help residents and businesses access these opportunities.

Contracts would be subject to competitive procurement and technical, commercial, quality and safety requirements.

Environmental commitments

Climate neutral operation

Uxbridge Road Tech Park will run on 100% renewable or zero-carbon energy. This commitment will be guaranteed by planning conditions and legal obligations

Sustainable design

URTP’s buildings will target an excellent or outstanding BREEAM rating, for high standards of sustainable design, construction, energy efficiency and environmental management

Heat recovery

Heat from URTP’s buildings can be recovered, and URTP’s project team is working with potential local off-takers to use it
